Learning
Stations/Learning Centers
For this class, a station is considered as part of a
rotation, with the activity lasting on 10 – 20 minutes. The center would be for
an activity requiring a longer time and possibly including other materials. The activities involve the students in active
learning and result in the production of an artifact such as a coded program, a
drawing, a journal entry, or a physical object.
· Digital
Microscope (Offline, USB port, Chromebook Camera). Science is the obvious connection – looking at
plants, rocks, fossils, bugs, feathers - but this might also be useful for
journaling, art, or social studies/history (looking at artifacts.) Since this is an
offline peripheral, the Chromebooks can be taken outside.
· Drawing
Tablets (Offline, USB port). Art,
illustrating reports, Nature Journaling.
Since this is an offline peripheral, the Chromebooks can be taken
outside.
· Coding
(Online/Offline, USB port, Micro:bit). We’ll
look at Scratch Jr. (offline) and the Makecode environment (Online.) You can download Makecode programs to a
Micro:bit attached to a Chromebook.
· Data
collection/sensors (Offline, USB port, sensors). Vernier sensors with Graphical Analysis
app. There are also several sensors built
into the Micro:bit as well so there’s a great connection to coding.) Good for outside work also.
· AI
(Online, Chromebook camera and microphone.)
Birdsongs, plants, animals ID software.
· Other
– 3D viewer, Augmented Reality
